Background.

Two collections are searched here;

1) The Pennsylvania State Archives / PRRT&HS database on this site has 97,436 drawings distributed by year as follows;

Pre 1900 - 3700 drawings
1900 - 1919 - 31,000 drawings
1920 - 1939 - 46,000 drawings
1940 - 1959 - 13,000 drawings
1960 - 1977 - 2000 drawings

2) Rob Schoenberg's "Pennsy Home Page" has over 2,581 drawings in the following catagories;

PRR Equipment Diagrams
PRR Standard MOW Plans
PRR Standard Signal Plans

Start your search.

The "Quick Search" buttons do just what they say, quick and easy search of the PaSA / PRRT&HS database for the three most popular items.

For a more detailed search, select a department from the "Department Search" menu. From there select or enter parameters as needed. Text fields can be blank, that's like selecting all. When asked to enter start and end dates, keep the date range small or you will be waiting for a while. There are many drawings without dates, so use 0000 to find these.

The results.

Drawings that are on Rob's site will open in a new window. Drawings in the Pennsylvania State Archives / PRRT&HS database will be listed in table form on the right. The Control Number is the drawing number. The Location (Loc) of the drawing is where the drawing is physically located. The Department column is more or less which department the drawing would belong to, and so on.

How to order.

For drawings in the PaSA / PRRT&HS database, if the Location is "S," then the drawing is available from the PRRT&HS, and if the Location is "A," then the PA State Archives have the drawing.

Disclaimer.

The PaSA / PRRT&HS database represents a small number of PRR drawings on hand, and if a drawing does not appear in this search, the Archives or Society could still have it. The best way to identify all the needed drawings is to get the "List Of Tracings" drawing for the equipment you are interested in.
